Earth's Tectonic plates are constantly moving on top of another and these sliding beneath causes distortion in land or in sea floor .When the energy accumulated exceeds the frictional force between the two struck plates the overriding plates snaps backs to its unrestrained position ,water suddenly rises in ocean due to sudden movement of plate and thus energy transferred in the form of huge train of waves
During its arrival sea water retreat back and these water actually consumed for the height of the train of waves.
